Daily I have women come into the store looking for solutions for acne. It doesn’t matter if it’s adult onset acne or a teenager who’s struggling, it is a frustrating problem! Fortunately, we do have an awesome natural cleanser & toner that helps most. But improving your diet will only make it easier to clear up this problem.
The most important nutrients in the fight against acne are:
Vitamin A, Zinc, Vitamin E and Essential Fatty Acids.
Vitamin A – Doctors will often prescribe Accutane for acne. It’s a very concentrated form of Vitamin A so it does work for many. But it’s also very hard on the body. You can get Vitamin A from sweet potatoes, carrots, dark leafy greens, cantaloupe, papaya & peaches.
Zinc – Some studies have shown a link between a deficiency in zinc and acne. If you are vegan/vegetarian, this could be the issue for you since zinc is found primarily in beef and dairy. You can also get zinc from beans, nuts & pumpkin seeds, though, so add those to your diet if you are not already eating them.
Vitamin E – This vitamin is a great antioxidant to fight free radicals and also helps to heal scars. Food sources are peanuts, broccoli & avocados.
Essential Fatty Acids – Acne occurs when glands over produce keratin and sebum. They clog pores and cause breakouts. Essential fatty acids cause something called healthy cell transference which helps dissolve fatty deposits that block pores and cause acne. EFAs also help the skin to heal and repair. Great sources are walnuts, pumpkin seeds, avocados, kale & spinach.
I’ve listed a couple of different recipes for you to try:
Acne Fighter #1
3 carrots (tops removed)
1 cup broccoli
1 cup spinach
1/2 green apple
Acne Fighter #2
2 sweet potatoes
1/2 inch ginger
Let me know if you have juice you enjoy that fights acne and I’ll share it with others by posting it on here.
